One year after a “disturbing” animal cruelty incident, Niagara Regional Police are renewing their appeal for information regarding an attack that left one horse dead and several others injured. Investigators are still searching for suspects in the case.
Authorities indicate that the targeted assault on the equine residents at a boarding facility located in Welland, Ontario, took place during the late-night hours spanning the timeframe from July 30 to July 31, 2025.
During the standard operating morning evaluations conducted by stable personnel at the agricultural estate situated in the vicinity of Buchner Road and Highway 140, a total of eight horses were discovered suffering from severe lacerations or puncture wounds, while an additional horse was found lifeless on the property.
In their initial briefings regarding the incident, law enforcement representatives disclosed that a severely traumatized horse required immediate transportation to a specialized veterinary medical center for urgent surgical intervention, whereas the remaining surviving animals received medical assistance directly on the farm premises.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that specialized detectives have been continuously actively pursuing investigative leads throughout the past twelve months, yet the criminal file is still classified as an open and unresolved mystery.
Consequently, the Niagara Regional Police Service is aggressively issuing a secondary public plea, urging any citizens possessing relevant background details or surveillance footage to step forward and connect directly with the primary investigative unit or submit anonymous tips through the Crime Stoppers network.
