Imran Khan’s sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, have expressed deep fears about their father’s health and safety. They stated that the former Pakistani cricket captain and prime minister is being kept in total isolation and is not receiving proper medical attention inside the prison.
During an interview with former England cricket captain and Sky Sports commentator Michael Atherton, the brothers expressed deep anxiety over their father’s physical condition, raising serious questions about the medical treatment Imran has been subjected to during his confinement.
Kasim and Sulaiman discussed in detail what they characterized as a deteriorating environment for their father, who has remained jailed in Pakistan for approximately three years. Kasim asserted that Imran has lost roughly 80% of his sight in one eye, mentioning that the former Pakistani skipper was recently observed wearing a protective eye patch.
The brothers also claimed that Imran spends over 23 hours every day completely alone inside a small cell, with very little access to books or basic comforts. They added that his cell lacks any air conditioning during the intense summer heat.
“They are not even following any kind of clear strategy anymore. It is hard to tell what their plan is, other than openly trying to kill him inside. They just want to keep him locked away for as long as possible and completely silence him. The last time he managed to speak to our aunts or anyone else, he mentioned that his living conditions have recently become much worse.
“He has been comparing his situation to other political prisoners who were either killed or died while under custody. Right now, things are worse than they have ever been; he is entirely isolated for more than 23 hours a day in that cell,” Kasim stated during the interview, which was broadcast during the lunch break of the second Test match between England and Pakistan at Lord’s yesterday.
“At this moment, it is absolutely vital for our family that he receives appropriate medical care. He was wearing an eye patch due to his optical condition and appeared noticeably anxious, which is an image that remains incredibly difficult for us to envision because he has always personified a deeply composed and confident demeanor every single time I have ever been around him, even when facing an armed threat. In fact, a vehicle we were traveling in was once targeted by thieves, and he remained the most tranquil individual present during the entire ordeal, outdoing even the criminals themselves,” he further detailed.
The siblings additionally discussed their ongoing endeavors to secure a visit with Imran. They asserted that their entry visas to Pakistan had been denied by authorities under what was communicated to them as purely administrative and technical reasons.
Despite fears of potential arrest, the brothers expressed a willingness to risk traveling to Pakistan to visit their father.
Sulaiman recounted that instead of being taken to the private Shifa hospital as planned, their father was briefly brought to a government medical facility and then returned directly to jail.
