OTTAWA — The British government has rejected the Ottawa government’s attempts to get them to join the international Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB). However, London says it will work closely together with Canada to meet NATO military spending goals.

The DSRB is created to lower the cost of borrowing money for military spending. It does this by combining the credit strength of different allied countries.

Canada has tried for months to persuade the United Kingdom to join the project. Instead, London has been working on its own program called the Multilateral Defence Mechanism. Both countries agreed on Sunday to create a plan for working together between both banks. They came to the shared conclusion that it is best to build two separate but helpful institutions that work well together.

The two countries will work in close partnership on investment opportunities and problems, according to a shared media statement.

The DSRB will have its main base in Canada. It has the support of countries like Belgium, Turkey, and Ukraine.
