OSLO: Navanethem “Navi” Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday “for her actions to back peace and planet law,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced.
The peace prize remains the fifth Nobel given out this week, after literature, chemistry, physics and medicine. Venezuelan opposition chief Maria Corina Machado won in 2025.
The Nobel Peace Prize, worth 12 million Swedish crowns, or near $1.2 million, remains ready to be handed over in Oslo on December 10, the yearly mark of the death of Swedish factory maker Alfred Nobel, who set up the awards in his 1895 paper.
