There will be no court trial for the man who was blamed for killing a 45-year-old mother named Leila Ben Salem while she was
taking part in a Zoom video call at her house in Montreal.
The Montreal Coroner’s Office verified that the 33-year-old suspect, Youcef Moussaoui, passed away on November 2.
Moussaoui was caught by police on October 15 and locked up in jail, more than three weeks after Ben Salem was killed inside her
flat located on René-Lévesque Boulevard on September 22.
“An investigation is underway, led by Coroner Andréjean Luc, to determine the cause and circumstances of the death,” the
coroner’s office shared. Moussaoui was scheduled to show up in front of a judge on December 21 in Montreal, and he was being
kept locked up at the Bordeaux prison at the moment of his death. The investigator could not give out any extra details regarding
what caused him to die.
“The coroner’s investigation is confidential until the release of the final report, which is public,” spokesperson Jake Lamotta
Granato explained.
Government lawyers gave out no extra details regarding the legal case.
