KUALA LUMPUR — A boat moving plenty of individuals flipped in harsh weather inside the Java Sea on Sunday, leaving at least six individuals dead and about 129 alternate ones unaccounted for, local workers said.
The ship, the Virgo Transport 8, was moving 243 individuals between Java and Borneo when it lost link, workers said. At least 108 of those on board had been safely taken out, the National Search and Rescue Agency, BASARNAS, said in a change at 6 p.m. in Jakarta.
“We cannot yet decide whether the losses are still inside the craft or whether they might be some distance away from the spot of the craft,” Dudy Purwagandhi, Indonesia’s transport chief, told reporters during a media talk in Banjarmasin, in Indonesia’s South Kalimantan province, where he was watching the ship’s clearance.
Workers with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation expressed in a declaration that they were still operating to decide the source of the event and whether it had been owing to “natural elements, technical elements or human elements.”
Vessels and a helicopter have been sent out to hunt for living people, workers said.
A visual clip put out by BASARNAS displayed what seemed to be living people in orange safety-boats being saved from the sea. Another clip displayed those alternate ones who had been saved on board another vessel getting first help.
The event comes after a different boat blaze off Madura Island last month that killed five individuals.
