TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) – Iran possesses adequate foreign currency notwithstanding intensified US sanctions and economic pressure, Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati stated Tuesday.
Directing comments toward US President Donald Trump, Hemmati remarked: “Iran has foreign currency, and it has enough.”
Addressing a symposium in Tehran, Hemmati declared the monetary authority stood prepared to introduce $2 billion into the foreign exchange arena, per the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
Dismissing American assertions of a financial breakdown, he clarified that Iran perpetually amasses foreign currency earnings and outstanding payments while maintaining domestic holdings and alternate assets whose specifics he noted cannot be revealed.
Hemmati observed that Iran’s financial framework persists in operating despite fresh sanctions, while ascribing the rial’s downward valuation predominantly to what he classified as emotional elements.
He disputed contentions that Iran had plunged into hyperinflation, asserting the likelihood stays minimal despite elevated price indexes and widespread economic strain.
Hemmati conceded that joblessness had expanded owing to the hostilities and destruction inflicted upon particular infrastructure, mentioning that minor and mid-scale enterprises would obtain preferential financing throughout the second half of the Iranian calendar year.
The declarations surfaced as the Iranian rial experiences fresh vulnerability against the US dollar amid escalated US sanctions and the financial fallout of the US-Israeli hostilities.
Washington has lately broadened its financial coercion drive against Tehran, targeting primary channels of Iranian income and overseas commerce.
Iran and the US endorsed a 14-point pact in June designed to conclude their hostilities, but the transitional agreement promptly collapsed.
