The stop of yearly time changes in sections of Canada has created major problems for Microsoft software.
Some clients dealt with issues regarding schedules and wrong times, the online corporate technology news site The Register shared on Monday.
Because of the time zone shifts in Canada, Microsoft put out its instructions for its items on October 26 and refreshed them on Monday.
In its main summary, Microsoft pointed out confirmed effects on these specific items:
- Outlook and Exchange Online calendar
- Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows
- Teams Auto Attendant
- SharePoint On-Prem
- Power Automate Desktop + Cloud Flows
- Fabric
- Microsoft Bookings
- Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations
Other items that might be hit include Microsoft Teams for desktop, web, and mobile, other Teams tools, Outlook for iOS, Android, and Mac, and Power Pages. People utilizing Outlook and Exchange Online would deal with problems where past calendar events do not move over by themselves, and repeating meetings require extra checking, according to the firm’s instructions.
People using Teams Rooms on Windows would see tools that displayed a time that is one hour slower than Windows, it pointed out. Teams Auto Attendant and Teams Events might not display the right time zones.
For Power Automate Desktop + Cloud Flows systems, it advised people to utilize temporary time links. For example, people in Manitoba would utilize SA Pacific Standard Time based in Bogota, Colombia. On November 1, 2026, the affected spots in British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba will not turn their clocks back. They will stay on UTC−07:00, UTC−06:00, and UTC−05:00 in that order, Microsoft expressed in its announcement. Affected spots in the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife and Inuvik, match up with the Alberta shift, and Northwestern Ontario matches up with the Manitoba shift.
Time zones are described by how different they are from UTC, which is the time measure normally used to figure out local times anywhere across the globe.
In its instructions, Microsoft advised people to finish these steps before November 1, which was when daylight time finished and standard time started for those locations that still follow the yearly time shifts. Among its advised steps, it told system managers to make sure they have the newest Windows updates set up on Windows tools used to enter Microsoft 365 so they can get the time zone fix.
Product teams are busy confirming the effects, fixes, and timelines across all Microsoft items, according to the instructions.
The firm advised that people check back for news regarding extra effects and permanent fixes.
