A ground operations crew member has passed away after being struck by an airplane at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on Monday evening.
Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) confirmed on Tuesday morning via a news release that the man had died, stating that the organization is “deeply saddened” by his passing and that it was deploying psychological support frameworks for personnel and travelers who observed the incident.
“The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply,” stated Yves Beauchamp, president and chief executive officer of ADM.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences.”
First responders were dispatched to the location at 7:30 p.m. after the individual, a staff member of Samsic, was struck by an aircraft that was performing a pushback maneuver on the tarmac.
He was evacuated to a medical facility in critical condition, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Montreal law enforcement authorities stated that the investigation has been officially transferred to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
Police officers and forensic investigators remained at the site to establish the precise sequence of events surrounding the occurrence.
The Montreal airport authorities stated that commercial operations are maintaining their normal schedule but advised travelers to verify the operational status of their specific flight directly with their respective air carrier.
